What is SaaS directory submission?

SaaS directory submission is the work of creating accurate product listings on the sites where software buyers research, shortlist and compare tools. Those sites include B2B review marketplaces, alternatives directories, business software catalogues, launch platforms and AI tool directories. A good listing tells a buyer what your product does, who it is for, how it is priced and what it replaces, and it links back to your site.

It is not the same as blasting your URL into hundreds of generic link directories. Google’s spam policies name “low-quality directory or bookmark site links” as an example of link spam, so volume for its own sake is a risk, not a strategy. The software directories worth your time are the ones real buyers use. A listing there earns its keep through visibility and referral visits, whatever the link attribute.

Our catalog currently holds 97 directories tagged for software and SaaS and 53 for AI products, out of 502 active directories in total. These are directories in our catalog today, checked by the team, not a scraped list.

Five kinds of software directories, five different jobs.

Each type reaches buyers at a different stage. A balanced SaaS listing plan covers more than one.

Review-driven ranking

On G2, Capterra and TrustRadius, reviews do the ranking.

A listing gets you into the catalogue. Real reviews from real customers decide how high you appear once you are there.

Reviews feed the grids and badges

G2’s category grids, TrustRadius scores and Capterra’s comparison views draw heavily on verified user reviews. A profile with zero reviews can be found by name but rarely surfaces in category pages.

Recency matters, not just count

Review marketplaces favour products that keep collecting fresh feedback. A burst of reviews at launch followed by silence fades. A steady habit of asking happy customers holds up better.

Some placement is paid

Several marketplaces sell sponsored positions or premium profiles. The basic vendor profile is free, and we set that up. Whether a paid tier is worth it is your call, and we never pay one on your behalf.

We never write, buy or fake reviews. Fake or incentivised reviews break every platform’s rules and can get a profile removed. What we do: make the listing complete and accurate, then point you to each platform’s official review-request flow so you can invite real customers. The listing they land on is ready for them.

Buyer-intent directories vs backlink-only directories

A buyer-intent directory is one people visit to choose software. A backlink-only directory exists mainly to sell or hand out links. The first kind sends visitors who are already comparing options. The second kind rarely sends anyone and can look like link spam.

Signs of a buyer-intent directory: it ranks for its own category pages, it moderates what it publishes, product pages show screenshots, pricing and reviews, and you can see real activity such as recent reviews or comments. Signs of a backlink-only directory: it accepts anything instantly, it has thousands of unrelated categories and its pages are mostly ads.

We only add a directory to the catalog after a person has checked it. If a directory stops moderating or goes quiet, we mark it inactive instead of quietly counting it toward your package.

What a strong SaaS listing contains

A strong SaaS listing answers a buyer’s first five questions without a click: what it does, who it is for, what it costs, what it works with and what it replaces. We build your profile once, you review it, and every directory gets a version in the format it asks for.

  • Category and subcategory that match how buyers search, not how you describe yourself internally.
  • A short description of 20–160 characters, plus a longer one that explains the main use cases.
  • Pricing model: free plan, trial, per-seat or usage-based, with a starting price if you publish one.
  • Integrations and platforms such as web, iOS, Slack or Zapier.
  • Alternatives: the tools buyers compare you with. This is how alternatives sites decide where to show you.
  • Logo, screenshots and links to your website, docs and social profiles.
Competitor-based matching

Name two competitors. We find where their buyers browse.

Your competitors’ listings are a map of the directories that matter in your category. We use that map when we match directories to your product.

Why software listed widely gets described correctly by AI

AI assistants describe software using what the web consistently says about it. When G2, Capterra, AlternativeTo, SaaSHub and your own site all give the same category, pricing model and use cases, an assistant has fewer reasons to get your product wrong.

Google says its AI features need no special markup. Pages need to be indexed and eligible for a snippet, as its AI features guidance explains. Consistent, accurate listings help with that, but nobody can honestly promise that an AI assistant will recommend your product, and we don’t.

Asking for reviews the honest way

The fastest honest way to get reviews is to ask the customers who already get value from your product, at the moment they get it. Good moments are a renewal, a closed support ticket rated positively or a milestone inside your app.

  1. Use each platform’s own review invitation link or flow, so reviews are verified.
  2. Ask everyone in a segment, not only your happiest users, and never filter who gets the link.
  3. Follow each platform’s rules on incentives before you offer anything.
  4. Reply to reviews publicly, including critical ones. Buyers read the replies.
What we don’t promise. We don’t guarantee that any directory will publish your listing, because each one runs its own moderation. We don’t guarantee Google rankings, AI mentions or review volume. Package prices don’t include third-party listing fees, and nothing paid happens without your approval. You approve every listing before it goes out.

FAQ

SaaS directory submission questions

What is SaaS directory submission?

SaaS directory submission means listing your software on the sites where buyers search for and compare tools: B2B review marketplaces such as G2 and Capterra, alternatives sites such as AlternativeTo and SaaSHub, business software directories such as SourceForge, and launch platforms such as Product Hunt. A complete SaaS listing explains what the product does, who it is for and how it is priced, and links back to your website.

Should my SaaS be listed on G2 and Capterra?

For most B2B software, yes. Buyers use G2 and Capterra to build shortlists, and their profiles often appear for “product reviews” and “product alternatives” searches. Basic vendor profiles are free, while premium visibility is paid. LinkHunter sets up the free profile; you decide whether any paid tier is worth it.

Will a G2 or Capterra listing rank without reviews?

Usually not very well. G2, Capterra and TrustRadius order categories, comparison grids and badges mainly by verified user reviews, plus paid placement on some pages. A SaaS profile with no reviews exists and can be found by name, but it rarely surfaces in category pages until real customers review the product.

Can LinkHunter get reviews for my software?

No. LinkHunter does not write, buy or fake reviews, because that breaks every review platform’s rules and can get a SaaS profile penalised or removed. We point you to each platform’s official review-request process so you can invite real customers, and we make sure the listing they land on is complete and accurate.

How does naming competitors help my SaaS listings?

When you name two competitors, the LinkHunter team checks which directories already list them. That shows where buyers in your category actually browse, and it is often the fastest way to find relevant niche software directories. Naming two competitors also adds 3 free submissions to your allowance.

How long do software directories take to publish a listing?

It varies widely. Some SaaS directories publish within days, others moderate for weeks, and some offer paid fast-track options. Your Directory Boost dashboard tracks every submission from queued to published and records the live listing URL once a directory approves it, so you always know where each listing stands.

Is SaaS directory submission the same as a Product Hunt launch?

No. A Product Hunt launch is a one-day event that depends on your own community and timing. SaaS directory submission builds lasting listings on review marketplaces and software directories that keep working after launch day. Our startup submission page covers launch planning in detail.

Do software directory listings help with AI search?

They can help indirectly. AI assistants describe software using what the web says about it, and consistent listings across G2, Capterra, AlternativeTo and similar sites give them the same facts about your product, category and pricing. Nobody can honestly guarantee that an AI assistant will mention your SaaS.
